Stephen Heigh
Illustrator, teacher, and bearer of family tradition
Creativity is in Stephen HeighÕs blood. His father was an
automobile designer and illustrator for Ford Motor Company; his great
grandfather, a glass artisan from Czechoslovakia. So, when Stephen embarked on
a career in the arts, it seemed only natural.
Born in 1960 in Abington, Pa., Stephen studied at The Art
Institute of Philadelphia on a scholarship. Since then, his career as a
professional artist has spanned more than 24 years with his work appearing
nationally and internationally in galleries, museums, books, magazines,
greeting cards, giftware, collectibles, fashion, and interior and architectural
design.
Currently, Stephen is an illustration professor at Moore
College of Art & Design in Philadelphia. His childrenÕs books—ÒMr.
George and the Red HatÓ and ÒThe Snowman in the MoonÓ—have won national
awards for writing and illustrating. In addition, Lucas Films has selected
StephenÕs work for a ÒStar WarsÓ tribute book, called ÒVisions,Ó to be released
in late 2010. The book features artwork by top illustrators, artists, and
designers from around the world—all hand-picked by George Lucas. The art
also will be part of a national art museum tour.
Stephen resides in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia
with his wife Anna, who works at Creative Beginnings, Fox Chase Cancer CenterÕs
early childcare program. The couple has two grown children, Thomas and Anna
Julia.
